On the cross, Jesus said "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" about those mocking and hurting and killing him. The Lord's Prayer includes "forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors," which is what we are supposed to do. Forgiveness is a big deal and it makes a big difference. Holding a grudge and not being willing to forgive doesn't just hurt the person who sinned against you; it hurts you and makes life harder for you. Being able to forgive someone brings you healing and peace. To fully forgive someone, you may have to personally, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually forgive them and release yourself from being the victim of a wrong action. Even then, the person may not repent, so there is no reconcilliation, but that shouldn't change your heart. At times, you have to simply choose to let go of what someone did to you and to live in the grace of God, even if that person never acknowledges what he or she did.
Forgiveness, even when unwanted, unaccepted, and unreturned, is so worth it.
